Travel Soccer at SMSA

At SMSA, Travel Soccer is a competitive program for U9 & older players, where teams compete against other area teams in the Central Pennsylvania Youth Soccer League (CPYSL). Travel Soccer provides a safe, fun environment where our players can learn the value of teamwork, build character and self-confidence, and develop good sportsmanship.

Our goal at SMSA is to teach youth soccer players to love the game, and also foster growth both on and off the field. Our learning environment aims to foster quality growth in our players, by focusing on key ingredients of player development in addition to supporting the development of many life skills that will help to prepare them for the future.

2025/2026 Travel Seasons Info

Age requirements:
For boys and girls born in the years 2008 - 2015 (various teams). Please click here to view the birth year registration chart to determine your player's specific program & age group eligibility.

Fall Season Details:
Teams practice 2x per week beginning in August. Games are scheduled through the Central PA Youth Soccer League and are scheduled on either Saturdays or Sundays depending on age level.

Spring Season Details:
Teams practice 2x per week, typically beginning mid to late March. This can vary slightly year to year depending on weather and field/indoor availability. Games are scheduled through the Central PA Youth Soccer League and are scheduled on Saturdays or Sundays in the spring depending on age level.

Registration fees are non-refundable & a travel uniform package must be purchased at an additional cost.

Spring Season Travel Process

Please take a few minutes to read the important information below about the Spring season registration process for travel teams (ages U9 and older)!

The way SMSA works as well as most soccer clubs at this age level is that players attend an annual tryout for a spot on a team for the soccer year (tryouts are held annually in the Spring to establish teams for the upcoming Fall and following Spring seasons).
Registration for the Spring season is first made available for all “returning players”, meaning those that were rostered to a U9 or older team in the Fall season.
Registration will be opened for new players wanting to tryout for a team if there is availability on the roster(s) within an age group. The only way that players are able to be added to the a team for the Spring season is if spots become open due to players not returning, or if there is not already a full roster.
New players interested in joining a travel team for the Spring season must register for the new player sign up for the Spring season below. This lets us know that your player is interested in playing Spring soccer.
We require all players wanting to play travel soccer to try out for our teams. Any new players who sign up to indicate interest in joining a team for the Spring season should plan to attend the scheduled spring tryout for their age group (see schedule below).
Evaluations are held in an effort to place players at appropriate levels with their peers to enable the best possible experience on the field, not to discourage them from playing the sport.
Since teams are not "re-set" for the Spring season, new players will be evaluated to join an established team within their age group. Players will not only be looked at based on their soccer experience and skill, but also based on attitude, willingness to learn, and their overall "fit" with the other players on the team.
There is NO COST for new players to sign up and indicate interest. Registration fees for the season will be due following evaluations and once players are placed on a team. At this age level, players must also purchase a travel uniform package in addition to registration fees.

Spring 2026 Travel-Returning Fall Teams

Spring 2026 registration is now open for returning U10 & older players! Please read the through the below information carefully, as it contains instructions on how to register your player to return for the Spring season, and what to do if your player is not planning to return for the Spring.

Registration must be completed no later than Monday, December 15th in order to secure your player's spot for the Spring season and avoid a late registration fee!

Players Returning for Spring 2026-

Registration includes payment of the Spring registration fees. Please note that all payments will be conducted online via the Sports Connect system and SMSA will not issue refunds for registration fees.

1. Log in to your account via the SMSA website at https://www.smsoccer.com.

Note: Once you have successfully logged into your SMSA account, you should see an "Accept or Decline" option in each of your returning player's participant boxes on your home screen. Players that have parents with separate accounts - "Accept or Decline" button will show under the account where the player was registered for the Fall 2025 season. If, for some reason, you do not see the accept or decline option, or are having trouble accessing your account, please reach out to Heidi Murphy, Registrar, at [email protected].

2. Click the “Accept” button in the player's participant box

3. Accept the Club Policies and click “Continue”

4. Continue registration through checkout

5. That's it! Thank you for registering for the upcoming Spring season. Your player's coach will be in contact with more information closer to the start of the season.

Please note that there are multiple payment plan options for families to choose from to pay Spring travel registration fees, however all options require fees to be paid prior to

the start of the season. If your son or daughter's participation is jeopardized because of financial considerations, please click here for more information on financial assistance. Applications for the hardship fund must be submitted prior to Monday, December 15^th registration deadline in order to be considered for the upcoming Spring season.

Players NOT Returning for Spring 2026 -

1. Log in to your account via the SMSA website at https://www.smsoccer.com

2. Click the “Decline” button in the player's participant box

3. On the next page click "No" to the club policies and you should be re-directed back to the home screen. The accept and decline options will no longer be visible.

4. Thank you for letting us know you will not be returning and we hope to see you back next year!

Please note: Depending on the number of players that accept or decline their spot on the roster, some adjustments may need to be made following the player acceptance period to ensure an appropriate number of players per team. SMSA will contact you directly regarding any changes to the placement of your player.

LATE REGISTRATIONS - ALL PLAYER REGISTRATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED NO LATER THAN MONDAY, DEC 15^th – NO EXCEPTIONS! Players may still register through Monday, Dec 22nd with a late fee of $15 applied, however after Monday Dec 22nd, late registrations will no longer be accepted so that team rosters may be finalized and the necessary information can be submitted to the league in preparation for the Spring season.
