SMSA Soccer Academy Player Expectations
SMSA Soccer Academy is designed to help players take ownership of their individual development outside of regular team training. Players are expected to build strong habits, stay committed to improvement, and consistently work on the skills needed to grow their confidence and comfort on the ball.
1. Complete 300–400 Touches on the Ball Daily
Players are expected to spend time each day getting touches on the ball through simple individual training activities. This may include dribbling, juggling, ball mastery, first-touch work, passing against a wall, or other skill-building exercises. Consistent daily touches help players improve control, confidence, coordination, and overall comfort with the ball.
2. Attend at Least Three SMSA Soccer Academy Sessions Each Month
Players are expected to attend a minimum of three SMSA Soccer Academy sessions per month. These sessions provide additional instruction, repetition, and guidance beyond regular team practices. Consistent attendance helps players reinforce proper technique and continue developing important individual skills.
3. Complete Two Player Evaluations Each Season
Players will complete two evaluations each season: one at the beginning of the season and one at the end. These evaluations will include feedback from team coaches as well as an SMSA Soccer Academy instructor. The purpose of these evaluations is to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and help players understand their development over time.
4. Attend In-Season Agility Training
Players are expected to participate in in-season agility training opportunities. Agility training helps players improve balance, coordination, quickness, footwork, body control, and overall athletic movement. These skills support player development and help improve performance during practices and games.
SMSA Soccer Academy Standard
SMSA Soccer Academy players are expected to work hard, stay committed, and take responsibility for their own development. By building strong training habits and consistently working outside of regular team practices, players give themselves the best opportunity to grow, improve, and enjoy the game.
***While these expectations and agreement outline most of the requirements there could be other changes throughout the season that will be communicated with families in the SMSA Soccer Academy***
